The Monster on Top of the Bed Children’s eBook Review

code=TOP31ff95d2863188e232a2044b4f9b1b7c” rel=”nofollow”>

Were you afraid of the dark when you were little? Are your kids afraid of the dark or being left alone to go to sleep in their bed?

I know as an adult, I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m still afraid of the dark…well not really the dark, but what “could be in it” that I can’t see, LOL. And my oldest son is the same way! Any little noise and he’s calling for me…then I have to stop what I’m doing and check the room; A-F-T-E-R he spends 10 minutes trying to duplicate the noise and convince me to stay in there with him.

It’s hard trying to get him to face his fear when I share the same fear. I am in my thirties & have not been able to conquer it so how can I convince him to  “get over it”???

For starters, we recently received an eBook to review: The Monster on Top of the Bed. Although it didn’t “wipe out” OUR FEAR…it made us giggle and have a silly view on things.

Plus it made it possible for me to address a situation that I was uncomfortable with in a manner I’d never thought of in a way my son was comfortable talking/reading about…

So remember next time you are in a scary situation… Things might not be as they seem.

FarFaria App Review

wpid-wp-1418682624607.png

Growing up I was what you call a “speed reader” and I loved to read…as a kid first starting school I recall getting Curious George books from the library every chance I got. As I got older I spent my summers seeing how many books I could read and making sure it was more than my prior record.

So when I had kids of my own I pictured us going to the public library every few days and picking out books together to read together at night…LOL…That was a fairy tale!!!

My oldest son, who is currently 9, has ADHD, ODD, and Dyslexia!!! Therefore he HATES reading…my 1 year old on the other hand LOVES books, especially the Bible, but doesn’t always leave the pages intact…and me, I have adult ADD and am late for everything!!! Including returning library books….

So with the possibility of late fines and damaged books we have not made many family trips to the library. Also if you know anything about ADD/ADHD, we get bored easily with the same thing, so buying books is out of the question too.

That’s where our new found love of the FarFaria App (available on Google Play Store and iTunes) comes into play at our house.

We can get on my smartphone or tablet and pick a book and read away…or the boys can have the app read the book to them if I’m busy blogging 🙂 or if it’s a book they want to read over, and over, and over, and over, etc. I don’t have to worry about late fees or ripped out pages.

Soothie Suckers Review & Flash Giveaway

Are you worried about your child’s immune system? The “cold” months are among us and GERMS are every where!!! Thank goodness I no longer have to worry about “public school germs” but before I started home schooling my oldest son, I worried ALL DAY, EVERY DAY, during cold season, that some other parent sent their kid to school sick and that kid was going to cough or sneeze cold germs and they would somehow travel into my son (airborne, that’s the kid my son happened to “high 5” that day, or even could be one of his friends he pushes on the swing set at recess, who knows)…Bizarre?, maybe…Likely?, highly…

If you are like me then you don’t like to medicate yourself unless absolutely necessary and “necessary” is ONLY cause you feel like you are on your “death bed”. And I R-E-A-L-L-Y DON’T LIKE TO MEDICATE MY KIDS!!!!!!! I don’t like to see them sick or suffering either but I only use your basic Infant/kids Tylenol in most cases & that’s if there is a “Fever” involved…I am that mom that says…”Hey, are the symptoms really worse than the (medicine’s) side effects?” and then ponder on it…

So I got the chance to try Soothie Suckers with my boys…

What’s In The Bible: Volume 10 Jesus Is the Good News! review

OK, so I don’t push religion on anyone…and if you have kids with special needs (especially ODD) you know that the more you push anything on them, the more they REBEL against it. I even remember wanting to attend church as a child but being BORED outta my mind once the preacher began and trying to stay awake was what kept me “in tune”.

So I’m always looking for FUN, ENTERTAINING ways to teach my kids about the Bible, God, and Jesus. And once again if you have kids with special needs, you probably also know or can agree that anything with MUSIC helps keep their attention and retain the information.

So when I was extended the option to watch

What’s in the Bible? Vol 10: Jesus is the Good News

from VeggieTales creator Phil Vischer I replied quickly, reserving my spot.

When the DVD arrived my mom wanted to watch it too, so me, her and the boys made a movie date. My mom wasn’t really religious as I was growing up but she got “saved” within the past 10 years, joined the church and attends every Sunday now. She jumps on any opportunity to watch any movie about the Bible, cartoon or not, so she can possibly understand the Bible more than she does by reading it.

The DVD includes (2) 25-minute episodes: God’s Perfect Timing & The Messiah Has Come!. The first episode shows as Buck Denver, the puppet news reporter, and his crew learn about the 400 years between the Old and New Testaments and how Jesus arrives at just the perfect time. The second episode goes to teach you about the life and ministry of Jesus–how He died for us and rose again to launch the kingdom of God in the world and in us!

and none of this can go on without their catchy theme song…

which I caught myself singing along to…

My mom and I learned things alongside the boys that neither of us recalled hearing before so do I recommend this video???

YES, I Do and I hope to acquire more Volumes of this series for my boys too

The Magical World of Sebella~Legend of Halloween Review & Giveaway (3 winners)

Yes, I know Halloween has past but due to a family emergency I am running behind schedule…Plus if you are like me you always start preparing the day after any holiday for next year’s celebration.

I absolutely LOVE to read! I read everything including instruction manuals but I really love to read books about magical worlds or scary books so when Thea Berg, the author, sent me a signed copy of The Magical World of Sebella~Legend of Halloween for my 2 boys I was excited to finally get it and share it with them.  I was even more excited to see that the book is what I refer to as an “easy-read”: the type is larger and the lines are spaced wider for easier reading.  This excitement mostly comes from the fact that my 9 year old has Dyslexia and gets frustrated easily when I try to get him to read anything but this layout wasn’t such a struggle…he liked the plot although he felt it was a little bit more for girls and a time or two was a little worried about whether he’d get to go trick-or-treating as we do go during the daylight from 3-5pm to businesses downtown and skip the night time activities. My 1 year old just loves books and really doesn’t have an opinion of anything yet except what he wants in his cup to drink, LOL.

If you or your tween like “magic” then you’ll love following Sebella & her little brother Drac along with their cousin Prudence & Sebella’s best friend, Kendall on their All Hallow’s Eve adventure with Grandma which beings at the Black Cat Cafe’…

Do you know the legend of Halloween?

Three Little Werewolves live on the outskirts of a town called Skullvilla.  They are powerful and important.

On October 31st when the sun goes down, the werewolves must howl into the night sky to awaken the moon and signal Halloween to being.

If this doesn’t happen, it will not get dark. And you know what that means…there will be no Halloween since no one goes trick-or-treating in the daylight.

Now for your chance to win a signed copy for your family so you can see if Halloween comes or not in Skullvilla…

~Glen Campbell I’ll Be Me~ A rare glimpse inside of The Rhinestone Cowboy’s battle with Alzheimer’s disease & 5 song EP soundtrack Giveaway

I was recently selected for an Exclusive Online Screening of a truly heart touching movie that I suggest anyone should see EVERYONE WATCH (not to be a “spoiler” but be sure you have a box of tissues in your lap). Although I don’t know anyone with Alzheimer’s disease, I do know first hand that loving someone battling a force you can’t control is heart-breaking…I am married to an “addict” so watching this movie was, well…very tough for me…but I’m truly GLAD I did & can’t wait to get it on DVD if it becomes available!!!  I feel that God gave me the opportunity for a reason.and Glen’s family showed me that I’m not alone. as other families battle life’s obstacles, sometimes worse than my/your own. Now a little about the movie:

From the producer of ‘Walk the Line’GLEN CAMPBELL…I’LL BE ME:

an epic human drama about the undying bond between Glen & his wife, Kim, the strength of true love, and the power of song. As music legend Glen Campbell enters the final stages of Alzheimer’s disease, his family is giving the world a rare glimpse inside his battle with the disease.
~A true tale of how America’s greatest country star would not give up his music or his family, against all odds.~
In 2011, when Glen Campbell, aka The Rhinestone Cowboy, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, he joined forces with his family to fight the biggest battle of his life. Glen and his wife, Kim, made history by going public with the diagnosis – the first time a major American celebrity would share this experience with the world. The Campbell family then embarked on a short “Goodbye Tour,” but the three-week engagement turned into an emotional and triumphant 151-show nationwide tour de force.  With joy and a tireless sense of humor, Glen and his family live each moment in the present while preparing for the future, all while playing their music to sold out venues on a star spangled voyage spanning the country from Carnegie Hall to the Hollywood Bowl.
As a solo artist, Glen has recorded some of the most beloved songs of his generation including Gentle On My Mind, Galveston and Rhinestone Cowboy. He has been awarded five Grammy Awards and three Grammy Hall of Fame honors, seven Academy of Country Music awards, a Pioneer Award recognition, three American Music Awards, two Country Music Association Awards and three Gospel Music Association Dove Awards. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2005. Glen Campbell has crossed the boundary between pop and country and transcended into a true musical icon. Glen Campbell’s musical and entertainment career, covering nearly five decades, is unmatched for its prolific breadth, popular appeal – and flat-out musical accomplishment and achievement. His guitar playing is legendary and can be heard on classic tracks from Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds, to Frank Sinatra’s, Strangers in the Night.
On Feb 12, 2012 Glen performed on the Grammy Awards, to an audience of 39 million people, and was given the distinguished Lifetime Achievement Award.
***The film features those who know and love Glen, including Bruce Springsteen, Bill Clinton, The Edge, Paul McCartney, Jay Leno, Vince Gill, Jimmy Webb, Blake Shelton, Sheryl Crow, Keith Urban, Brad Paisley, Steve Martin, Chad Smith and Taylor Swift among many others. Rare vintage footage and extraordinary new performances of Glen’s most beloved hits immerse this moving cinematic account in the overwhelming talent of this humble family man.***

The BETTER Electrical Outlet Cover Review + Giveaway Ends 10/14/14 @ 7pm EST

coverplug

I’m a mom & I’m always worried about my kids…they are BOYS!, and “Boys will be Boys” (that’s a freebie fact, LOL). My boys are also 8 years apart in age (9 & 1): sometimes I wonder if I were temporarily insane…Because even though I had 8 years of “mom experience” with an ADHD/ODD boy, nothing he did prepared me for my 1 year old. Not to say 1 is better, smarter, more advanced, etc than the other but my older son never really “got into” or bothered anything he wasn’t suppose to. My 1 year old on the other hand is…well “Sneaky, silly, a prankster and extremely curious!!!”

Which is why I signed up to review The Coverplug …

I know kids learn a lot of skills by watching others but Riken (my 1 year old) will actually sit still and stare, like a college kid listening to their professor review for the final exam they have to Ace to pass the class, if he sees someone operating/fixing any object he is no ways old enough to use…and one of his favorite objects happens to be “power” cords. Of course I don’t let him play with them and I know about the possibility of strangulation for babies/toddlers and these type objects but Riken only wants to unplug or plug a cord in and move on. Therefore I try to eliminate using outlets he can access…

That’s where The Coverplug has proven to me to really be “The BETTER Electrical Outlet Cover”. As I said earlier Riken is curious and clever, yet the common outlet plug covers still reveal the outlet, just block the holes, and since Riken can see the receptacle through these he tries to pry them out.

test-coverplug-product-1000

The Coverplug comes in a package of 2 (two) and now I can now prevent him from tampering with the outlet at the end of his playpen and the rarely used outlet in the front hallway. Due to space issues I have no where else to put his playpen and thanks to The Coverplug he doesn’t know it’s there as The Coverplug covers the entire outlet and can even be painted to match and those features make the plug “outta sight, outta mind”…(it also keeps him from getting a new hair do he might not like)

So now Thanks to The Coverplug, it’s now “2 points for mama, 0 points for Riken”!
